Misunderstood Sensitivity

While science gives us language, God’s Word gives us purpose. Scripture reminds us: “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out” (Proverbs 20:5). What many mistake as oversensitivity is often a divine gift. Emotional discernment, when guided by God, allows us not only to feel emotions but also to respond with grace, compassion, and truth.
EQ in God’s Word
The Bible is filled with teachings on managing emotions with wisdom. “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19) is a blueprint for self-regulation, one of the pillars of EQ. “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15) reflects empathy—the ability to share in another’s emotional state. God’s Word doesn’t dismiss emotions; it guides us in stewarding them well.
Living with Wisdom
When I aligned my emotional awareness with both God’s Word and scientific understanding, my life transformed. No longer did I react out of confusion. Instead, I responded with intentionality. I learned that perceptions can be deceiving, but wisdom reveals truth. Emotional Intelligence, shaped by Scripture and affirmed by science, equips us to love better, lead wisely, and live with clarity.
